ReUNITED: Empowering Seniors to Make a Difference Through United Way of Greenville County

United Way of Greenville County’s ReUNITED affinity group has defined meaningful impact for seniors in philanthropy and service for almost a decade. This dynamic group embraces the experience, wisdom, and generosity of older adults, enhancing our local community and creating a stronger, more vibrant place for us all to call home.

Since its establishment in 2017, ReUNITED members, after transitioning into a new life stage, express a strong desire to contribute meaningfully to Greenville County and remain actively engaged in community efforts. This is done through three avenues:

LEARNING: Members have access to exclusive conversations and programs with local leaders and problem-solvers to learn about the needs of the Greenville County community, ask questions to understand poverty’s deep roots, and find ways to get engaged.

SERVICE: Members contribute their time and talent throughout the year, individually and collectively, to build a Greenville County where all people have access to achieve their full potential. This might look like serving our community through Hands On Greenville, stuffing backpacks with all the supplies students need for their first day of school. Whatever the service, ReUNITED will connect you with meaningful volunteer opportunities that change lives and move Greenville County forward.

GIVING: Members also engage in generous philanthropic giving to address key community needs through United Way of Greenville County’s “How We Win” strategy. This strategy identifies four barriers to higher earnings for low-income households in the Greenville County region: Housing, Childcare, Education, and Transportation.

ReUNITED’s three avenues for engagement provide a sense of purpose, social connection, and opportunities to continue learning and growing. Studies show that seniors who volunteer experience improved mental and physical well-being, reinforcing the idea that giving back is a two-way street, benefiting both the giver and receiver and strengthening the fabric of the community.
